Secrets and Hope in Our Mad World

Early in 2017 I read George Marshall’s book ‘Don’t Even Think About It: Why We are Wired Not to Think About Climate Change’ and I decided I would think about it. And I would read about it. Then I would write about it.

I write as a 'non-expert' and I'm hoping that your comments will help me to see whether the insights I've

gained make sense, whether the conclusions stack up and whether it's realistic for me to start feeling

hopeful about the future .

May 24th - Do the 'Underminers' have the solution?

There are plenty of ideas around about how we can get out of the mess we are in but perhaps the most radical is that described in Keith Farnish's book 'Time's Up:  An uncivilised solution to a global crisis'. (see http://www.farnish.plus.com/amatterofscale/timesup).  There's no doubt about it, he comes out with the big hammer approach which is 'undermining'.  He reckons that things have just gone too far, that the world is on the verge of chaos and collapse and the best thing we can do is to undermine the system which has brought us to this unhappy point.  Really worth a read but it should go with a health warning 'this book could make you seriously depressed'!
I've now seen that people all over the world are finding ways to change their lives and develop local communities to move towards a happier, more resilient and sustainable way of life and that there are those out there who think its too late and that we need to work towards bringing down the system by any means at our disposal.  But, what is being said by the great and the good about the means by which we can bring in the necessary system changes by peaceful, legitimate, democratic, intelligent means?  That's a bit of a minefield but will be worth trying to work through ...
