Secrets and Hope in Our Mad World

Early in 2017 I read George Marshall’s book ‘Don’t Even Think About It: Why We are Wired Not to Think About Climate Change’ and I decided I would think about it. And I would read about it. Then I would write about it.

I write as a 'non-expert' and I'm hoping that your comments will help me to see whether the insights I've

gained make sense, whether the conclusions stack up and whether it's realistic for me to start feeling

hopeful about the future .

Health Warning - Reading this could damange your (mental) health

George Marshall's book 'Don't Even Think About It: Why our Brains Are Wired to Ignore Climate Change' was something of a light-bulb moment for me.  What he says is spot on.  We don't want to think about it.  The usual response to any mention of climate change is a blank expression or a change of subject or a shrug of the shoulders.  And that is pretty understandable. Personal experience has shown me that thinking about it is painful.  And depressing.   Have you stopped reading this yet?
It's now 4 years since I started writing this blog. It's been great for me. I've been able to let off steam and express some of the rage (a carefully-chosen word) I feel at what's going on in our world.  And that's felt good for me.
But,  interestingly,  I've had very few comments to my 140 posts. I've done nothing to promote my blog.   I've not taken up any of the many offers I've received on-line to help me increase the number of readers.  But perhaps the reason for the lack of interest is more to do with George Marshall's contention that most of us just don't want to know.
So,  I'll carry on writing for my own benefit.  Letting off steam and ranting.  Much better for me than bottling it up I guess ...
