I’m on a steep learning curve. Because the world seems to have gone mad, I’m searching for answers to some difficult questions: ‘What's gone wrong in our world?’ and ‘What can we do to bring us to a better future?’ My search has brought some surprises - some of which seem more like secrets - but it has taken me to a place of hope. An increasing number of people have a vision of a better world and are coming together to find a way to get us there. I’m beginning to feel uplifted!
Secrets and Hope in Our Mad World
Early in 2017 I read George Marshall’s book ‘Don’t Even Think About It: Why We are Wired Not to Think About Climate Change’ and I decided I would think about it. And I would read about it. Then I would write about it.
I write as a 'non-expert' and I'm hoping that your comments will help me to see whether the insights I've
gained make sense, whether the conclusions stack up and whether it's realistic for me to start feeling
hopeful about the future .
Isn't life getting exciting/scary/interesting/complicated/uncertain (take your choice!)
I'm not surprised so many people have turned away, cos if you keep tuned into the news it can all be pretty depressing but I've gleaned a glimmer of hope from ...
The massive number of people who are taking to the streets in opposition to Trump's message of hate and division AND
Paul Gilding's assertion that: We are an extraordinary species, and we are capable of great things. History is full of evidence that when our backs are against the wall, all the great qualities of humanity, our compassion, our drive, our technical brilliance and our ability to make things happen on a massive global scale, come strongly to the fore. AND
The front page of Positive News (the magazine I subscribe to to keep me sane) - Breakdown or Breakthrough? Let's face it: The way we are moving globally isn't looking too good, so perhaps 2017 will be the year of 'breakthrough' to something better.
And my final source of hope comes from the late, great, Tony Benn who said: 'Hope is the fuel of progress, fear is the prison in which you put yourself.'
