Secrets and Hope in Our Mad World

Early in 2017 I read George Marshall’s book ‘Don’t Even Think About It: Why We are Wired Not to Think About Climate Change’ and I decided I would think about it. And I would read about it. Then I would write about it.

I write as a 'non-expert' and I'm hoping that your comments will help me to see whether the insights I've

gained make sense, whether the conclusions stack up and whether it's realistic for me to start feeling

hopeful about the future .

Inequality - the evil of our times

Just after I finished reading about a Russian billionaire whose luxury £700m yacht, with two swimming pools and a helipad, was moored on the River Clyde in Scotland last year,  I overheard a conversation on a bus where a woman was describing her problem of the evening before.  She is on disability benefit and is having problems making ends meet.   She had put her gas hob on to prepare a meal of pasta, but after a couple of minutes the gas went off.  She pays for her gas on a top up system and it had run out.  Her main complaint is that even when she doesn't use the gas she has to pay 28p a day standing charge which is almost £2 a week, a lot of money to someone on benefit.
Are we really 'all in it together' as our Prime Minister says?  I think not. No wonder there is anger, but unfortunately I'm not one who believes the answer lies in either us leaving the EU or the US having Trump as President.
