I’m on a steep learning curve. Because the world seems to have gone mad, I’m searching for answers to some difficult questions: ‘What's gone wrong in our world?’ and ‘What can we do to bring us to a better future?’ My search has brought some surprises - some of which seem more like secrets - but it has taken me to a place of hope. An increasing number of people have a vision of a better world and are coming together to find a way to get us there. I’m beginning to feel uplifted!
Secrets and Hope in Our Mad World
Early in 2017 I read George Marshall’s book ‘Don’t Even Think About It: Why We are Wired Not to Think About Climate Change’ and I decided I would think about it. And I would read about it. Then I would write about it.
I write as a 'non-expert' and I'm hoping that your comments will help me to see whether the insights I've
gained make sense, whether the conclusions stack up and whether it's realistic for me to start feeling
hopeful about the future .
October 11th - Trying to keep positive isn't easy!
At the same time as we hear that Jeremy Hunt is threatening to withdraw the 1% pay rise for NHS workers, train fares and energy bills are being hiked up way above inflation and many workers in the construction industry are being deprived of work by being blacklisted for speaking out about working conditions, the Royal Mail is floated and on day one it is predicted that share value will go up by around 40%!!! (I reckon that deserves at least three !'s) Somehow reminiscent of the sale of state assets in the old Soviet Union when the family silver was sold off to those in the 'know' (in the Party?). Those very Russian oligarchs who now seem to be struggling to find London mansions for around £50m.
Hey, ho, back to looking for the good stuff ...
Hope this might bring a small smile to your face....

Don't let the bas**rds get you down !
Good news helps but irrespective of any gloomy future, don’t neglect to keep up a healthy influx of what makes you (even temporarily) happy in the present.
ReplyDeleteEven in the worst case - there’s always black humour:

Cheers for the blog!
Thanks for that Walter. Tom Lehrer made me smile this morning and to tell you the truth I've lots in my life that makes me smile. Just sometimes difficult to ignore the bigger, blacker, stuff that's going on in the world.
