Secrets and Hope in Our Mad World

Early in 2017 I read George Marshall’s book ‘Don’t Even Think About It: Why We are Wired Not to Think About Climate Change’ and I decided I would think about it. And I would read about it. Then I would write about it.

I write as a 'non-expert' and I'm hoping that your comments will help me to see whether the insights I've

gained make sense, whether the conclusions stack up and whether it's realistic for me to start feeling

hopeful about the future .

Which Party is more disaster-prone? A race to the bottom!

Graham Brady, chairman of the Conservative 1922 Committee, warns that ‘if we were to let Labour in again it would be a disaster for this country’. Would that be much like the disasters we’ve faced under his Conservative government: Academy schools leading to poorer educational opportunities for the poorest;  the closure of youth centres leading to massive increase in street gangs and murders of young people; the NHS on its knees; a huge growth in the need for food banks; and Thatcher’s ‘home-owning  and share-owning democracy’ morphing into a country of ever-increasing renting and homelessness and our essential services being bought up by foreign states and corporations. Then, of course, there’s the looming disaster of Brexit!
